A story from Bulgaria…
I know how many similar appeals you get daily. I long waited, remained silent and helped the heroes of my story however I could. I want to tell you that story.
I live in Meden Rudnik district, Burgas. I gave it too much thinking before deciding to tell you this story because I feared you wouldn’t answer me or you would refuse to help me. But after what I’ve seen yesterday I decided to speak up and ask for help because I can do nothing more to help them alone.
I will go a little back in time. Three months ago I was at the bus stop near my home. In the fenced area behind me I saw a cat mommy with three little kittens. Very social and beautiful creatures, they go near everybody. I went to the store, bought them some food, gave them water and I started going there every day. I watched them, fed them, and caressed them. But one by one the kittens started disappearing. I tried to help at least the last kitten. I talked to some friends to shelter him and I was going to provide his food and all. But when I came back the next day he was gone. I looked for him for an hour, but no sign from him or his mommy. So after two weeks of searching I finally lost hope. Until one day when I was at the bus stop I saw the little guy. He was looking at me with fear and didn’t want to come near me. He was crouched and frightened and I barely managed to come near him. But when I did, he just relaxed in my arms. What I saw was horrible – his leg was not just broken but crushed and it was clearly visible that it was hit with something heavy because I could see three holes as if made by the back side of a hammer. I rushed back home to take a box, bandages and some other staff and when I came back in about 20 minutes his leg was freshly cut off – even cut without any fragments. The veterinarian I took him to determined that the leg was cut off with sharp meat scissors. The animal had numerous hematomas and broken ribs; apparently someone had been abusing him every day, little by little, just for fun. Fortunately, this hero got better and recently I and my friends paid his bill in the clinic. This was in March.”
Yesterday again waiting for the bus I noticed a kitten on the other side of the street, trying to cross it. But when it came nearer it was clearly visible that his leg was terribly broken – almost exactly the same way as of the previous kitten. Fortunately, he crossed the street. When he went into the fenced area I came near him and he just lied down on the ground and stayed there as if waiting for me to hit him or do something horrible to him. I pulled back and in the same moment another cutie showed up, absolutely the same as the other – twin kittens. I saw that that kitten’s leg was also broken /the hind leg/. When I took it to stop it from going out in the street I saw that the leg was not broken, but cut off. The paw was missing. Again the same precise cut.
When I asked a girl who went out to feed them what happened, she said that she had no idea. She said the kittens showed up every day with injuries and mutilations. She called 112 and the police, but no success. Apparently someone finds pleasure in abusing and torturing those animals.
I’ve been thinking for filing a complaint but I don’t know who’s behind those terrible actions. The girl who was the only one that gave me some info said she doesn’t know too but nevertheless she called the authorities and asked for help; without any effect. No suspect, no one saw them, no crime. That was their answer.”
Hell of a story, isn’t it? Horrifying, doomed, without a trace of hope… We also don’t know how to help exactly and what to do… When helplessness grips your throat with its iron fist, all the sorrow, all the pain sweeps over as a tidal wave…
The good man who told us that story spent hours and days in hiding and waiting to see something that could help us change that situation somehow, but no result so far… He managed to take some photos of only one of the mutilated cats.
It turned out she is already a mommy of a little kitten. We wouldn’t refuse homes for them; we are sure they wouldn’t either…
We hope to show you more photos of the others soon.
