Oh Lord, this world is full of pain!
The initiative “Let’s clean Bulgaria in one day” had gathered a lot of people in the pine forest in Meden Rudnik district, Burgas. Everybody determinedly collected garbage, enjoying the sunny weather and trying to give their best for the good cause. A woman came upon another “garbage” in the high grass. A hardly visible movement of the chest – “the garbage” was breathing. The woman screamed: “It’s a dog!”
The dog was lying crouched and paying no attention to the turmoil around him. He was just given up – on our bad world, on his hard life, on keeping looking for a meaning of his existence. He didn’t want to beg or run anymore. In the pain of his terrible loneliness, in the horror of his helplessness, he didn’t even raise his head. Given up! That was the word describing the animal’s condition. The dog was slowly dying. He had stopped fighting; not that he had something to lose…
Who knows how long he had been roaming alone, hungry, forsaken, stoned not being too pleasant for the eye… A dog, who probably once was about 30 kg, weighed not more than 15 kg then. He was a walking skeleton, with bald spots and wounds all over his body. The flies, bothered by nothing at all, were perched and feeding on him. There was a wire around his neck – the “most amazing” accessory of this proud dog. This was what he deserved, for his great loyalty, probably keeping some yard, some hens or a ruined, useless shed! But nooo, that wasn’t all he ever deserved. What else you may ask? Someone had drained all his strength and when he wasn’t able even to stand straight on his feet, they “nobly” decided to throw him away to die alone in the middle of nowhere… Or he just had managed to run away from his awful life, somewhere, from somebody, in order to at least die in peace.
We want to thank a few young boys, one of whom is Todor Todorov, for not remaining indifferent and brought this suffered boy to us! Thank you, boys; because of people like you we still believe there is hope for those sufferers’ lives to change some day for the better.
When they tried to lay the dog on a rug and lift him up in the car, he just looked at them with empty eyes. “Do whatever you want with me; I have no strength to fight.” Can you imagine, dear people, what could have happened to him if those boys weren’t so friendly? Someone could have had their fun with him as history proved – such things happen. Fortunately for Galfie, he was lucky. We believe he was born with at least a little bit of luck; just as much as it was enough to bring him to us. You are no longer alone and you will be very much loved, Galfie! And although many others like him don’t live to get to us and die hidden away from people’s eyes, we are grateful, that we can hug another street hero and to tell you his story with the huge love filling our hearts.
The blood results are shocking. The boy has scabies, tons of fleas and ticks and as the doctors said: “He has no blood.” He is extremely anemic and of course the test results showed positive for Ehrlichiosis and Anaplasmosis. Galfie is on 2 types of antibiotic, on medications for treating the scabies. We dewormed and deflead him in order to save him from the bloodsuckers. For our greatest joy, he eats a little bit of wet food; very little and hardly standing on his feet.
And now, dear friends, we again need resources for covering his bill, which together with the medications additionally bought from the pharmacy, is 61 EUR so far. If someone can help him, please do; he deserves to be helped after all he’s been through. What depends on us – we will do; we will try to save him and to find the best home for him. But first Galfie needs to fight and live because he’s on the edge. We hope we will manage to get him back and show him the good side of a dog’s life; the life where there is no beating, no hunger but human caress – the caress for which they all dream of, the dogs without a home.
