Bree – will she live…
A child was throwing some objects at her while she was trying to rub affectionately against his legs. Despite her hard walking and empty belly, Bree was seeking human affection as if her life depended on the need to feel a gentle hand on her head.
We took the girl to the clinic immediately. She is about 4 – 5 months old. After the X-ray it was determined that she had no broken bones and trauma was neurological. All the muscles in the back part of the body are atrophied. We are waiting for a specialist’s opinion in order for the vets to decide if and how the kitten’s condition would be improved… It is quite possible that she is incontinent but we are not very sure just yet because she’s been with us just for a few hours. Her legs are wounded because of the way she uses them and she’s now being treated with antibiotics for preventing an infection. Her paws are bandaged in order to avoid contamination and further injuries. Bree eats well for now, cuddles very much and has a huge desire to live… But whether or not she will get the chance to enjoy life – it is too early to say.
Before giving any prognoses and directions about her condition, the vets need to perform myelography on Bree in order to determine where and what exactly is the pressing. The procedure is a type of radiographic examination that uses a contrast medium to detect pathology of the spinal cord and involves injection of contrast medium into the spine. The vets need this intervention in order to define the diagnostics. It is quite expensive but thanks to our doctors we will be again able to use a large discount and the price will be about 60 EUR. And Bree’s first bill of the initial exams is still unpaid – 32 EUR And because our costs are so big, from now on we will proceed this way – we explain the problem, we ask, we beg for them to get a chance and once we have the resources, only then we will test, treat and heal… We just don’t have the choice to the otherwise anymore. And you are the only ones to give those suffered souls this chance; we are assigned the hard task to walk alongside them in sorrow and joy, in pain and happiness, to watch them being born and watch them die in our arms, to accompany them through all the phases of their road from the street to the home, to cry and laugh with them and you are assigned the even harder task: to decide who lives and who dies.
