The dog with many lives – Rango the Immortal
Almost a year ago, one of the thousand Bulgarian mongrels was born. He was cheerful, playful and still wanted and by that time he had not even the slightest idea of what was about to happen to him. The little smiling furry boy was another yard keeper in a home which we called “the house of terror”. His owner was an old woman who found nothing special in the dog’s charm. She took him for another purpose. As time passed the little guy grew up and the granny found it such a wonder that he started to eat more. So much more that she couldn’t or actually didn’t want to provide it for him. Starving, he tried to provide for himself and started chasing the chickens in the yard /according to the old lady/. And that happened in the rare times when he could wring out of the chain. This was the point break for the woman and deciding she didn’t want to feed him anymore, because he eats too much and she didn’t at all want him around, she found the solution – to poison him. She gave him black poison for mice but fortunately it couldn’t kill the dog. She asked a man to take him out of the village by a car, far away. He was left about 10 – 15 km away from his “home”, but the young man managed to find his way and returned, to the old woman’s horror. But being more than certain that she wanted him dead, her creativity brought the idea of trying with household bleach. She soaked a piece of bread in it and the starving dog ate it. The result was again bad for the old woman because the dog didn’t show any signs of dying, even with a risk of internal damaging… But her creativity was far from spent. She tried to poison him with concentrated preparation used for treating sheep against external parasites. And when it gave no results either she again asked that man to take the dog out of the village leaving him even further away and in different direction this time. Three times poisoned, unwanted dog returned again in the house of terror.
We named him Rango. Todor Sotirov gave us our immortal Rango. He witnessed his whole odyssey. He decided to take him before the ideas of the old woman finally succeed. When he brought Rango to us, he was wrapped in belts, wires, chain and that whole thing was used as a collar.
We already wonder at nothing and stopped asking questions long ago, because few things can surprise us now. But we cannot stop wonder at the goodness in those creatures and the way in which they reach to us with trust, again and again. Rango is so magnificent, gentle, trustful and naive.
And how else… For him, that woman was his human, and even being bad, she was all he got. But he now has us, our caress and the love we will give him until we find his true home where there would be no terror.
Rango is less than a year old and he weighs max 13 kg. He may grow up to 20 kg when he reaches his normal weight because he is very thin right now. If his story touched you and you want to adopt him, contact us!
